The Development of Scientific Research

Oriented by national vital demands and international technological frontier, the university actively organizes and promotes the construction of science and technology innovation base, fosters the training of high-level top-notch talents and innovation teams, increases and upgrades scientific and technological achievements and capabilities of independent innovation and serving the society have significantly enhanced.

Firstly, science and technology funding continues to grow and the capability to undertake major national science and technology projects has significantly enhanced. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, science and technology funding continued to grow and the cumulative research funding has reached 101.78 billion yuan with an average annual increase of 7.2%. Undertake 6387 various projects, and the quantity and the level thereof increased year by year. Making a significant breakthrough in military qualification, NEU became one of the ten universities administrated by the Ministry of Education which achieved four qualification certificates and undertook 2 items of Key Project of Chinese National Programs for Fundamental Research and Development (973 Program) as the chief unit. Military and Civil Integration Research has become a new growth point of the scientific research.

Secondly, construction of science and technology innovation base makes significant achievements. The university has 3 national key laboratories, 3 national engineering laboratories, 4 national engineering (technology) research centers, 12 key laboratories, engineering centers and strategic research bases of Ministry of Education, 57 key laboratories, engineering centers and engineering laboratories affiliated to Liaoning Province. Thus, the science and technology base network with predominant disciplines as the main part generally forms.

Thirdly, the level of achievements is constantly upgrading. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, the university has achieved 279 various science and technology awards, including 72 national and first provincial level prize; granted 2760 various patents, including 2186 patents for invention; the number of published academic papers increased year by year, and 14644 were included in the three famous retrieval systems of SCIE, EI and ISTP.

Fourthly, oriented with the market and combining production, study and research, the university accelerates the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements and technology transfer, and enhances the ability of serving the social economic development. Meanwhile, National technology transfer demonstration agencies, national university science park, national Hi-tech innovation service center jointly build a complete sci-tech integrated service system for the university, which provides a better public service platform for the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, it has established college-enterprise cooperation with more than 2,000 enterprises and institutions at home and abroad, signed more than 4000 technical contracts, involving a transaction value of more than 3 billion yuan.

Finally, the university is running with global vision， and the academic exchange activities are becoming increasingly active. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, the university has hosted (undertaken) 161 domestic and international academic conferences, including 65 international conferences. Establishing scientific and technical cooperation with 219 colleges, academic institutions and enterprises in 36 countries and regions, our university built 4 bases of talents of discipline to universities.
